Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Hospital Conditions of Participation (CoPs) and The Joint Commission (TJC) Infection Control Worksheet with Proposed Changes and Antibiotic Stewardship Program

Infection control is hit hard during a hospital survey so every facility should have a full working familiarity with the CMS interpretive guidelines, as well as the proposed changes for assessing compliance with the infection control Conditions of Participation (CoPs).

This presentation will explain what hospital personnel need to do to be ready for surveyors, and will provide them with a better understanding of the CMS infection control interpretive guidelines and worksheet. This program will review the proposed infection control standards and changes, including the requirement to have an antibiotic stewardship program. Our presenter will also review important memos on infection control issues from CMS, ISMP IV guidelines and safe injection practices issues as well as other facets of this worksheet.

At the conclusion of this session, participants will be able to:

  1. Discuss the memos on infection control issues.
  2. Identify the infection control worksheet tracer on indwelling urinary catheters.
  3. Explain the CMS requirements for safe injection practices and sharp safety.
  4. Discuss the infection control worksheet section on hand hygiene tracers.

CEOs, COOs, CMOs, CNOs, infection prevention personnel, nurse educators, risk managers, quality and performance improvement staff, compliance and patient safety officers, accreditation and regulatory affairs personnel, and anyone involved in infection control standards.
